Award for Excellence in Interprofessional Education Teaching

Nomination Deadline: Friday October 7, 2016.

The Award for Excellence in Interprofessional Teaching was created by the former UBC College of Health Disciplines to honour an outstanding educator or teaching team that demonstrates effective teaching of interprofessional competencies to students within a health profession and/or from different health care professions to support excellence in the delivery of patient-centred care.

The award is valued at $500 and will be presented to an educator or teaching team of health and human services to pre-entry to practice students.


Eligibility criteria:

The nominee must be faculty or non-faculty appointed instructors who have taught a university-based interprofessional course for at least two years.


Nomination process:

A nomination form must be completed online and must include nominations from at least two individuals, one being a student who has been positively impacted by her/his experiences in the course taught by the nominated educator or team.

In addition, supporting documentation can be included in the form of a letter. The letter should describe the nominated educator or teaching team’s contributions towards interprofessional education* and how they are able to demonstrate and teach interprofessional collaboration to learners. The nomination can also include course programs, evaluation data, lecture outlines, participant comments, handouts or syllabi.

*Criteria to be considered in demonstrating excellence in teaching interprofessional education:

  • Adoption of at least one of the six National Interprofessional Competency Framework competencies into the course objectives, course assignments, and/or assessment.
  • Evidence of interprofessional content/approach to teaching and learning.
  • Evidence of use of principles of adult learning.
  • Teaching and learning methods reflect the reality of practice.
  • Creativity and innovation in delivery and content.
  • Student’s feedback about the interprofessional learning context.

Nomination Deadline: Friday October 7, 2016.

Note: Supporting documentation, if any, must be received in the Office of the Vice-Provost Health by the nomination deadline in order to be included in the nomination. Late or incomplete nominations will not be considered.


Award winner will be contacted in the fall of 2016.

Award winner must consent to having name of winning nomination published on the UBC Health website for the purpose of promoting the Award for Excellence in Interprofessional Education Teaching.
